Last updated on May 30, 2009.
Location: Hodges House lawn (white house facing Brattle Street), Lesley University/EDS campus. 101 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA. Closest T stop: Harvard on the Red Line.
Time: June 6, 2009. Gathering at 11:45 am for music. Ceremony at noon, followed by lunch at Upstairs on the Square (91 Winthrop Street, Cambridge, MA). Wear comfortable shoes to walk to the lunch (5-10 minute walk).
For guests staying in Lesley University housing: Location: Everett Hall, 28 Wendell Street, Rear. Cambridge, MA 02138. Check in at 23 Mellen Street, 1st Floor at the Lesley University Summer Housing Office. Closest T stop: Harvard or Porter Square on the Red Line.
Transportation: The subway/bus system (the T) is a good way to get around Boston and Cambridge. To get to Harvard or Porter Square from Logan Airport, take the Silver Line (SL1) to South Station, and transfer to the Red Line subway. Take the Red Line to the Harvard or Porter stop.Alternatively, a taxi will cost $30-40. If the driver asks, take the Sumner Tunnel to Storrow Drive and exit to the Longfellow Bridge.
For taxi companies, see this link.
Parking: There is a parking lot behind the Porter Square Exchange (1815 Massachusetts Ave.). On some days, parking in the Harvard lots is allowed with a permit; see here for instructions (52 Oxford St. is the closest lot to Lesley). Some metered parking is also available on some streets; be careful to read signs.
Places to eat: Harvard Square and Porter Square are filled with restaurants. Most places are pretty good, but some of our favorites are:
For excellent Thai food: Tamarind House.
For sushi at a reasonable price: Bluefin (in the Porter Exchange mall in Porter Square, which also has some smaller informal Japanese restaurants).
For Italian: Bertucci's.
For a raucous environment and Tex-Mex: Border Cafe.
For omelettes and diner food: Zoe's on Massachusetts Avenue.
For amazing hot chocolate (not to be missed!): Burdick's.
For juicy spherical burgers: Bartley's.
For a nice lunch or dinner: The Red House.
For $4 cheeseburgers: Charlie's bar.
For beer and a touristy experience: John Harvard's Brewhouse.
For the famous Scorpion bowl and okay Chinese food: The Hong Kong.
For more information on restaurants, see the Harvard Square website and the Unofficial Guide to Life at Harvard.
Things to do near Harvard Square:
Art at the Harvard museums.
Strolling along the Charles River (closed to car traffic on Sundays).
If you have time, there is a lot to see in Boston too (New England Aquarium, Museum of Science, Boston Commons and Public Garden...).
Registry: We would love it if you would like to share your generosity with a worthy cause. Some of our favorites are public libraries (e.g., in San Diego), Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International, Conservation International, the ACLU, and Foster Parrots. Please let us know about your contribution so we can cheer together!
